Bronwyn Newport is keeping family close after a heartbreaking diagnosis.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star spent Christmas in the hospital after doctors discovered a tumor in the back of her mom’s skull days before the holiday.
“I hope everyone that celebrates had a very merry Christmas,” Bronwyn began on Instagram Stories Dec. 26. “A month ago my dad (who has Alzheimer’s) fell and broke his pelvis. It put an incredible strain on my mom, who has, for almost ten years insisted on being his sole caretaker.”
The 39-year-old said she knew something was amiss when her mother started “struggling to manage” day-to-day duties and “kept getting more exhausted and frail.”
“My mom had similar dizzy, confused and exhausted symptoms almost 30 years ago when she had a brain tumor,” Bronwyn continued, explaining how she flew to California on a particularly “frail day” for her parent. “I went straight there from the airport and we received the bad news I was both expecting and not.”
According to Bronwyn, her mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor “in an almost identical location to the one she had” nearly three decades prior. The diagnosis meant her mom had to undergo emergency over the holidays.
“I spent all afternoon with her in the ER, and then Christmas Eve too,” Bronwyn shared, adding that it’ll likely be a “long recovery” before her mom is back to “her usual, feisty and amazing self.”
“I am so scared and worried, but my mom has helped so many over the years,” she wrote. “It is an honor to get to be the one who is here.”
And though being in the hospital meant missing out on Christmas festivities with husband Todd Bradley and 18-year-old daughter Gwen, Bronwyn was able to spend some quality time with her dad and one of his caregivers. As she put it, “Thank goodness you can get pizza delivery for three delivered on Christmas Eve night!”
