Nikki Glaser has some constructive feedback for Jo Koy.
As the comedian prepares to host the 2025 Golden Globes, set to air live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills Jan. 5, she reflected on what the previous emcee taught her through his controversial monologue at last year’s affair.
“It taught me the importance of contextualizing yourself to the room as a comedian,” the 40-year-old told Variety in an interview published Jan. 3. “Comedians, we would love to be thought of in the same light as these A-listers, but we just aren’t.”
And while Glaser has had quite the year herself—blowing up following her set at the 2024 roast of Tom Brady—don’t expect her to be hurling playful insults at the likes of Taylor Swift
Still, the Someday You’ll Die comedian has nothing but respect for Koy’s attempt, even sharing that he might have fared better in front of the right crowd.
As for what Glaser will bring to the table? She plans to follow the opposite of Koy’s approach.
“I’m going the other way and not assuming anyone knows who I am,” she explained, “making sure they’re introduced to me before I start making jokes about them.”
And Glaser is already going in with a leg up. She’s a first-time nominee for her newest HBO standup special, joining the ranks alongside Ariana Grande, Jesse Plemons and Zoe Saldaña. Despite the honor, she isn’t hoping for a win.
“I just really like the nomination,” she added. “I don’t like winning things. I like to be hungry and get close: It keeps me going.”
