Jamie Lee Curtis Shares Gutting Message Amid “Terrifying” L.A. Fires

After evacuating her home during the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a heartbreaking social media update.

Jamie Lee Curtis fears for her community amid ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

Raging brush fires in Southern California have forced 30,000 residents—including the Freaky Friday actress—to evacuate areas of the Pacific Palisades, Topanga and Malibu. And while giving an update on her family, Jamie reflected on what it has been like to leave her home to an unknown fate.

“My community and possibly my home is on fire,” the 66-year-old wrote in the caption of her Jan. 8 Instagram post. “My family is safe. Many of my friends will lose their homes. Many other communities as well.”

But during these confusing and difficult times, Jamie implored her followers to do their part by spreading helpful information to their friends and family.

“There are so many conflicting reports,” the Oscar winner continued. “With all the technology there seems to be very little information. PLEASE POST FACTS! IT WILL HELP THOSE WONDERING!”

As flames exacerbated by up to 80 mph winds spread through LA County, local authorities—including Los Angeles firefighters—stepped up to protect their neighbors and their most cherished belongings. And after seeing her community band together, the Halloween actress extended her gratitude to those taking the time to lift each other up, shouting out the “firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze.”

“We ALL take everything for granted because we are all living our lives,” she added, “but when it hits your community, it’s particularly shocking.”

Indeed, Jamie was joined by many others—including Travis Barker’s kids Landon and Alabama Barker—in sharing their experience evacuating. And while many are unsure of what their homes may look like when they return, The Hills alums Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag unfortunately shared that they lost their home entirely.

“I’m watching our house burn down on the security cameras,” Spencer shared in a Snapchat video Jan. 7, showing their deck and children’s room in flames, later adding that it was a “nightmare came true.”

His sister Stephanie Pratt later confirmed the extent of the damage while expressing her support on social media.

“I am beyond heartbroken for my brother, Heidi & the kids,” Stephanie wrote on her Instagram Story. “And to all of our friends and neighbors who have lost their houses today.”

“Just spoke to my dad – he tried to save my brother’s house but the wind is so strong there was nothing he could do,” she continued. “My parents evacuated safely and are watching the fire rage towards their house on security cameras.”

The impacts of the fires have also impacted awards season with the last-minute cancellation of the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, which were previously set to be announced at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st SAG Awards nominations announcement has been cancelled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,” a Jan. 8 statement read before announcing the nominees via press release. “In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay safe.”

And the 43-year-old wrote a message of support to anyone affected and to those taking action to help the community.

“7pm—Evacuated Malibu so last-minute,” the 73-year-old wrote in his Instagram post, “small fires on both sides of the road as we approached PCH.”

“8:15pm—Marilou, Trixie & I arrive at Chelsea’s house in Hollywood,” he said. “Most horrific fire since ’93, STAY SAFE!”

And in hindsight, Mark realized he may have underplayed the size of the fires he witnessed on his way to safety.

“there “were” small fires,” he wrote in the caption of his follow-up, adding, “gimme a break- we were fleeing for our lives. Stay Safe Everyone.”

Steve Guttenberg

The Police Academy actor stepped into action to help move cars on Palisades Drive out of the way of the firetrucks. And he implored others to do their part with an “important announcement.”

“What’s happening is people take their keys with them as if they’re in a parking lot,” the 66-year-old told local news station KTLA 5 Jan. 7. “This is not a parking lot.”

“We really need people to move their cars,” he explained, “so if you leave your car behind, leave the key in there so a guy like me can move your car so that these fire trucks can get up there.”
