Scarlett Johansson to Guest Host Today After Hoda Kotb’s Departure

Jenna Bush Hager announced that Marvel star Scarlett Johansson will join her at the Today With Jenna & Friends desk beginning Jan. 21 to guest host after Hoda Kotb exits the morning show.

Get ready to say good morning to Scarlett Johansson.

The Black Widow star will join Today With Hoda and Jenna cohost Jenna Bush Hager as one of a slew of rotating guest hosts after Hoda Kotb departs from the morning news program on Jan. 10.

“Scarlett Johansson is the queen!” Jenna told People in an interview published Jan. 7. “First of all, I’ve been obsessed with her movies since forever. The Girl with a Pearl Earring, I mean that shows you I’m a nerd who loves to read.”

The Read With Jenna book club leader—who will sit with the various guest hosts as part of the new Today With Jenna & Friends until a permanent cohost is announced—added, “She’s also a big reader, which will be so much fun. We have so much in common.”

Plus, Scarlett is now joining NBC alongside husband Colin Jost—with whom she shares son Cosmo, 3—who himself is a cohost for the “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday Night Live.

“It’s just a wild dream,” Jenna continued. “The fact that [Scarlett’s] coming to give us a week of her time, she could be doing anything, is a testament to the show that we have built. So I am beyond thrilled. I cannot wait.”

Scarlett—who is also mom to Rose, 10, with ex Romain Dauriac—will begin cohosting the new iteration of Today’s fourth hour on Jan. 21, following guest hosts Taraji P. Henson (Jan. 13 and 17), Eva Longoria (Jan. 14), Keke Palmer (Jan. 15) and Michelle Buteau (Jan. 16).

“You know what that says? Heavy hitter, home run, wow,” Hoda said to Jenna during the Jan. 6 broadcast after the initial lineup was announced. “This is a big week.”

Jenna agreed, responding, “We love these women, we’ve said we love these women. I feel like Hoda helped me manifest this. Nobody will ever fill this chair, but the three of them sure can try.”

Since sharing her decision to exit the show, Hoda—whose morning coanchoring duties alongside Savannah Guthrie will be filled by Craig Melvin—has also given a peek into what her next chapter holds.

“I am starting a wellness app and company that will involve retreats and a podcast and all kinds of things that we can get together, do things that I love,” she said on the Jan. 6 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I started doing stuff that I thought seemed woo-woo and weird. Then all of a sudden, as I was doing it, I was like, ‘Wait, I feel calmer. I feel better.’ Woo-woo makes you feel good.”

The 60-year-old also plans to spend more time with her daughters Haley Joy, 7, and Hope Catherine, 5.

“Obviously I had my kiddos late in life,” she said during her September announcement, “and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have. I feel like we only have a finite amount of time.”
