Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes exchanged touching words after their devastating loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9.
Ruling on the field stands: this exchange is very sweet.
After the Kansas City Chiefs were defeated by Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in the Feb. 9 Super Bowl, the team’s tight end Travis Kelce—whose girlfriend Taylor Swift was in the stands as his team fell to the Birds 40-22—and quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a touching moment.
Following the game, Patrick made his rounds, as seen in a video posted to X Feb. 13, reassuring his teammates, “we’ll be back” and “we’re going to do it again.”
When the Texas-native approached Travis, the two embraced with a pound hug, as Patrick commented, “I love you brother.”
To which Travis reciprocated the love.
“I love you, dawg,” the 35-year-old responded, holding Patrick close. “You know that. I owe you a lot.”
And while they didn’t quite secure the historic three-peat they had hoped for during the big game, the two have found victory in each other’s friendship in the years since Patrick was drafted by the chiefs in 2017. And for the 29-year-old, getting to play alongside Travis—who was drafted to the team four seasons prior—was an exciting prospect.
“I knew of him obviously,” Patrick told People in an article published in February 2024. “Because he was such a great football player even before I got [to the chiefs].”
As for what it was like to finally get to meet?
“I think my biggest impression was, ‘that’s a tall guy,’” Patrick revealed. “Because I’d never seen a guy that tall be able to move like that.”
And they became fast friends as Travis took Patrick and his now-wife, Brittany Mahomes, to a Kansas City Royals game during his first week on the team.
“We were sitting up front,” Patrick recalled. “We were having a great time and that’s kind of built part of the relationship that we have today.”
And while they started as just teammates, their friendship has soared to new heights, with Travis considering Patrick an extension of his family.
“I’m playing against a brother and I’m playing with one,” he told KMBC 9 in 2023, ahead of Super Bowl LVII where he faced off against his brother Jason Kelce, who was then the center for the Philadelphia Eagles. “It’s a pretty cool scenario to be in.”
And for this year’s Super Bowl, despite their loss, Travis and Patrick had plenty of supporters in the stands, including the now-retired Jason. Keep reading to see all the stars who stepped out at the game…
