Eva Longoria revealed that Meryl Streep had the sweetest reaction to finding out they’re cousins, saying that the Oscar winner quipped, “Clearly you got the beauty.”
Eva Longoria has only family members in the building.
The Desperate Housewives alum shared that she recently discovered she’s related to Meryl Streep while appearing on an episode of Dr. Henry Louis Gates‘ genealogy series Faces of America.
“He cross-references everybody’s DNA to see if we share a relative in the last 100 years,” Eva explained during a March 19 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “And he’s like, ‘Do you want to know who you’re related to?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And he’s like, ‘Meryl Streep.’”
And while the 50-year-old said that she was “so excited” over the revelation, she was hesitant to share the fact with Meryl when running to her at an award show some time after.
“I was, like, at the Golden Globes or I don’t know—something backstage in the green room—and my friend was like, ‘There’s Meryl, go say you’re her cousin,’” Eva recalled. “I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna go up to Meryl Streep and say we’re cousins. It’s not gonna make any sense. I don’t know if she saw that part of the show.’”
But the Land of Women alum didn’t have to deliver the news—the Oscar winner had already watched the episode herself. As Eva remembered, “I hear, ‘Cousin! Cousin!’ That’s how cool Meryl Streep is. She’s like, ‘Cousin!’”
In the end, the pair had a good laugh over their shared lineage.
Since then, the actresses haven’t only shared DNA, either. After all, they shared screentime as well after Eva signed on to play herself in the fourth season of Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building, which also stars Meryl as character Loretta Durkin.
“In this season was, like, Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, me,” Eva said of joining the comedy show. “I mean, every day, there was another comedy icon, and I was, like, pinching myself.”
