James Bond film alum Pierce Brosnan shared his thoughts on the idea of Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing 007 in a future film, amid rumors the actor is being considered for the role.
Pierce Brosnan did not appear shaken by the latest James Bond casting rumor, but he was stirred.
Following months of online speculation that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is being considered for the role of 007, Brosnan—who played the British secret agent in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day between 1995 and 2002—shared his thoughts about the possible casting choice.
“I think he would be very good,” the 71-year-old told Yahoo! Entertainment in an interview posted April 3, adding that the two had starred together on a 2009 film he executive produced. “I cast him in one of the movies I made a long time ago called The Greatest, actually, and he played ‘the Greatest.’”
Taylor-Johnson, 34, was 18 when he worked with Brosnan on the drama film. “This young man came on the set,” the 007 alum continued, “and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy. So yeah, I think if he wished it, wanted it and got it, he would be great.”
Rumors that Taylor-John was being considered for the role of James Bond following latest star Daniel Craig‘s exit from the franchise after the 2021 film No Time To Die began in 2023. In March 2024, a source with knowledge told E! News the British Nocturnal Animals star hadn’t been offered the part yet.
Taylor-Johnson—who is married to British film director Sam Taylor-Johnson—did not confirm nor deny the rumors in 2023. “It’s not really for me to say anything,” he told Esquire in comments published in August of that year. “I just focus on the things I can have my hands in right now. What’s in front of me right now.”
As for what fans can expect from the next Bond movie? Officials from Amazon MGM, which owned the franchise, recently spoke out about their vision for 007.
“We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character,” studio executives Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll said at CinemaCon 2025 April 2, per Variety, “while bringing a fresh, exhilarating new chapter to audiences around the world.”
