After performing at Coachella, XG revealed what Blackpink’s Lisa said of their performance—and how much her feedback meant to them—in an exclusive interview with E! News.
XG were shooting stars on the Coachella stage.
In fact, the girl group—whose name stands for Xtraordinary Girls—made such a splash during the two weekends of the festival that they grabbed the attention of Blackpink’s Lisa, who came to see their performance during the first weekend.
“She watched XG’s stage, and we got to meet her backstage,” XG member Hinata told E! News’ Francesca Amiker in an exclusive interview with the band. “She told us it was really good and complimented us, and that honestly made us so happy.”
And, the South Korea-based group—who made Coachella history as the first Japanese female group to headline the Sahara Stage, and the only Japanese act at this year’s festival—were eager to return the favor during the second weekend.
“We weren’t able to go during Week 1 because we were so focused on rehearsals and preparation,” Hinata added of watching the festival, “but for Week 2, we definitely want to go watch a lot of other artist’s performances.”
The significance of their being chosen to headline Sahara, and what it meant for how far XG has come, was not lost on the group.
“Honestly, from the very beginning, we’ve always felt strongly that we want XG to go beyond borders and reach people all over the world,” Jurin explained. “So being able to come to Coachella from Japan was amazing in itself, but what made it even more special was that we truly felt connected to so many people there. That meant a lot to us.”
Plus, the seven members knew they had countless fans cheering them on in their big moment.
“So many people were waiting for that moment with us, like they were holding onto the same dream,” Jurin continued. “And now that it’s happened, hearing people say they felt like they experienced that moment with us. It just made us really happy, too.”
And with their forthcoming new single “Million Places” set to release May 14, XG—which also features members Maya, Harvey, Juria, Cocona and Chisa—are ready to continue bringing their music to the whole world, no matter what.
“Taking on the world… stepping out globally means, of course, there will be positive comments, but there’ll be negative ones too,” Cocona said. “Still, I think that’s just part of rising to the top—it comes with the territory. I really believe that.”
She continued, “What matters most is what we want to do—what kind of group we want XG to be, and what kind of XG we want to show to the world. That’s the most important thing.”
