Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Pitt Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

Michael Pitt—who starred on Dawson’s Creek and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire—was arrested in New York on May 2 and is now facing several charges of sex abuse and assault.

Michael Pitt is facing legal trouble.

The Boardwalk Empire alum was taken into custody in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 2 after being accused of sexual abuse and assault, according to arrest records viewed by E! News May 7.

The allegations are in connection with four different alleged incidents in 2020 and 2021, per an indictment from the Brookyln District Attorney’s Office that was viewed by NBC News

During one incident, per the indictment, Pitt allegedly strangled someone. Additionally, on separate occasions in 2021, the Dawson’s Creek actor was accused of injuring someone with a four-by-four and a cinder block. (The indictment does not disclose how many people are accusing Pitt of the crimes or specify the nature of their relationships to him, according to the outlet.)

Pitt now faces nine charges: two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree; one count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree; one count of a criminal sexual act in the third degree; two counts of assault in the second degree; two counts of attempted assault in the second degree; and one count of strangulation in the second degree, per the court records viewed by E!.

The 44-year-old pleaded not guilty to all charges and has since been released from custody after posting $15,000 bail, according to the records. He is set to appear back in court on June 17.

Following his arrest, Pitt’s attorney Jason Goldman reiterated that his client denies any wrongdoing.

“Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt—an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes—can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unreliable individual,” Goldman said in a May 7 statement to E! News. “In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, from a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual relationship.”

The lawyer added, “We have already uncovered exonerating evidence, and this case will be dismissed.”
