DC This Week Roundup – Software and Stealth

Ray: The Titans are under attack from all quarters in this issue, as Slade’s new team continues to stalk them and plot a major assault. But complicating things, the Justice League has called them out on the carpet – pointing out that they’ve been acting independently and have potentially put the entire DCU at risk by taking in Vanadia, a rebuilt creation of Professor Ivo who is now easily the most powerful member of the team. The cybernetic being is itching for combat, and she gets her chance when Orca and her gang of whale-themed criminals attack a laboratory – and she’s able to shut down all the power armors used by the villains with a thought. The only problem is, she nearly kills Cyborg in the process as well. As doubts swirl about the team’s newest member, we get another big surprise – in the form of the last member of Slade’s team. This one is going to get deeply personal next issue.

Ray: Selina’s past has come back to haunt her in a big way in this arc, with the main threat coming from the actions as her alter ego Evie years ago. The last two issues have peeled back the curtain on the heist that led her to abandon that identity, and why exactly the villains have been pursuing her ever since. And then there’s the biggest wild card in the whole thing – Shota, a mysterious young man who seems like a key ex of hers. He’s always ready to come when called – and he plays a key role in bailing her out of the fire after a close escape last issue. A new romantic lead for Selina is always a dicey thing, given that her relationship with Batman will always loom very large, but Shota seems intriguing – if not entirely trustworthy. The reveal at the end of the issue is very intriguing, and another interesting wrinkle into the most noir-oriented Catwoman run since Genevieve Valentine’s time on the title.
