Sister Wives’ Kody Brown, who is currently married to Robyn Brown and has exes Christine Brown, Janelle Brown and Meri Brown, said he’s the “villain” in latest tell-all.
If Kody Brown’s life was a movie, it would be, he says, Batman Returns.
But, unlike the people of Gotham turning on him as they did Batman in the 1992 film, Kody claims that the latest season of Sister Wives unfairly made him into the bad guy in the first of four installments of the show’s tell-all special.
“If you don’t die the hero, you live long enough to become the villain,” Kody explained to host Sukanya Krishnan in the May 25 episode. “It’s about being villainized. It’s not about being the villain. It’s about being villainized.”
Kody—who is currently only married to wife Robyn Brown—posited that his exes Janelle Brown, Christine Brown and Meri Brown have made him into a villain throughout their respective separations from him, as he continues his relationship with Robyn. The 56-year-old—who is dad to 18 children between the four women—also said his villain edit comes from him speaking “fluidly.”
“It’s easy to make fun of somebody who doesn’t have a filter,” Kody continued, noting after he watched a clip back of his behavior over the last season of Sister Wives, “It’s hard to be accountable for things you’re saying in a passionate moment.”
But not everyone saw Kody as the anti-hero this season. Later in the episode, Robyn defended Kody while comparing his previous relationships with Christine, Janelle and Meri.
“I think for a long, long time, he told me that he tried really hard to bring the other relationships up to what he thought our relationship is and was,” she explained. “He wanted that with all of the relationships, but it was just like, a relationships is based on the two people in that relationship.”
Meanwhile, Kody stood by his previous claims that he “never loved” his former wives.
“It’s not a matter of rewriting the past,” he noted. “It’s a matter of where I was in the breakup. I am definitely guilty of going through a breakup scenario where I was like, ‘I never loved them.’ My state of mind there, it’s like just the heartfelt, like I’m digging in my feelings and going, ‘I never loved them.’ And that’s because of the space that we were in. Marriage has to be nurtured.”
But while Robyn could agree that her relationship with Kody was different, she thinks he actually did love Christine, Janelle and Meri, too.
“I feel like that’s just pain talking,” she posited. “I feel like that’s bitterness talking, anger talking.”
No matter how he felt about his former wives, Kody rejected being villainized for his relationship with Robyn. As he put it, “You cannot ever blame the fact that Robyn and I had a deep love on the way that these other relationships went.”
