Michelle Obama and Barack Obama celebrated youngest daughter Sasha Obama’s 24th birthday by sharing a rare family portrait that also included eldest daughter Malia Obama.
Michelle Obama and Barack Obama will always put family first.
The former first couple shared a rare vacation photo with daughters Malia Obama, 27, and Sasha Obama, 24, in honor of their youngest’s birthday on June 10.
In the snapshot, the foursome were dressed casually in casual garbs—with Michelle and her daughters in flowy dresses and the former president in a casual polo shirt and pants—as they happily posed together in front of a cliff face.
“Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha!” Michelle captioned the family portrait on Instagram. “Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become. Love you always!”
Meanwhile, her husband of 32 years told Sasha that “watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift.”
He added in a post of his own, “I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you.”
Indeed, their kids have forged their own individual paths since leaving the White House in 2017. Both Malia and Sasha graduated from college, with the older daughter pursuing a career in screenwriting.
“Malia, who started in film, her first project she took off her last name,” Michelle shared on the June 3 episode of the Sibling Revelry podcast. “And we’re like, ‘They’re still going to know it’s you, Malia.’ But we respect that she’s trying to make her way.”
The former first lady continued, “It’s important for my kids to feel like they’ve earned what they are getting in the world. And they don’t want people to assume they don’t work hard, that they’re just naturally handed things. They’re very sensitive to that.”
But, according to Michelle, her daughters have always marched to the beat of their own drums.
“They definitely didn’t want to be little princesses in the White House,” she noted. “They wanted to push the envelope. They needed some rope. They wanted to try some things. They wanted to be out in the world.”
