Scheana Shay Book Bombshells: Cheating, Celeb Flings & VPR Fake Scenes

You know that it’s Scheana Shay’s time. The Vanderpump Rules alum told E! News she wanted to be “an open book” with My Good Side, detailing everything from celeb hookups to Brock Davies’ infidelity.

We interviewed Scheana Shay because we think you’ll like her book. Our writers and editors independently determine what we cover and recommend. When you buy through our links, E! may earn a commission. Learn more.

More than a decade after she first appeared on TV screens it’s all still happening for Scheana Shay

Though Vanderpump Rules—the addictive Bravo series that turned her into a household name—announced last November that it was doing a cast reboot, the 40-year-old remains firmly entrenched in the pop culture zeitgeist, making appearances on The Masked Singer, Vanderpump spinoff The Valley and hosting her Scheananigans podcast.

And now she’s digging even deeper with the July 22 release of her memoir My Good Side, which details her years on Vanderpump, her short-lived first marriage to Michael Shay and struggle with postpartum OCD after welcoming daughter Summer Moon with husband Brock Davies in April 2021.

“I like to break the stigma,” Scheana explained in an exclusive interview with E! News of being an open book. “Talk about the scary things sometimes that go on in my head, because when I say that out loud, other people are like, ‘Oh, my god, me too.’”

Though, in this case, that meant detailing the issue she’s been privately wrestling with since 2023, when Brock confessed that he’d carried on a brief affair

The Pump Rules OG continues to keep it real in her first memoir. What doesn’t she discuss?

She spent eight months flip-flopping on whether to include the deeply personal experience, but, “I would not be authentic if I did not write about this,” Scheana explained. Not only would she be withholding “something huge and devastating that happened in my life. I’m also skipping a huge thing I was able to overcome and I felt like there’s something to be said for that.”

And while she absolutely threatened to walk—”Those were probably the first words out of my mouth”—once she had a chance to work through those intense initial emotions, she decided to try for the sake of her family.

“I am glad that she gave me a reason to fight,” Scheana said of Summer, “because although our marriage isn’t perfect, I think Brock is the perfect person for me.”

Now, she’s grateful for the opportunity to offer up the unvarnished truth.

“I am very glad that we’ve been able to work through this,” said Scheana, “and I hope by speaking about it, it gives other people hope that cheating is never okay, but it also doesn’t necessarily mean the relationship has to end if you’re willing to forgive and put in the work.”

And the Azusa, Calif. native has been hustling her entire life. Here’s what she detailed in her memoir My Good Side.

Scheana Shay Truly Didn’t Know Eddie Cibrian Was Married

It’s fitting that then-21-year-old Scheana Shay met 12 years older Eddie Cibrian waitressing at an L.A. cigar bar because much of their romance was smoke and mirrors.

Calling the actor “the sweetest, funniest, most charismatic, consummate gentleman I’d ever met,” in her 2025 memoir My Good Side, Scheana noted he “never wore a wedding ring” despite being married to Brandi Glanville, mom to his two sons. “I assumed he was single,” she wrote, adding she didn’t realize he was famous “because I never thought to look him up.”

While they weren’t exclusive they had “a weekly booty call” starting at the end of 2006. And though another club member eventually told her he was married, “I didn’t want to believe it,” she said. “We were out together all the time in public, so I didn’t feel like some secret mistress!”

Back on, Eddie gifted her a set of diamond earrings, confessed his love and whisked her away on a snowboarding trip that she said “seemed like a huge step in our relationship.”

Then—in March 2009—she saw his affair with LeAnn Rimes splashed across magazine covers. “It did piss me off that Eddie never had the balls to have a final conversation,” she wrote. “But I got over it, and I haven’t seen Eddie since.”

Scheana Shay Romanced Her Share of Celebrities

As she was romancing Eddie, Scheana was also seeing how things grew with Desperate Housewives gardener Jesse Metcalfe. “We would order in dinner with his parents at his house, and—when we were alone—he would play the guitar and serenade me with songs like ‘Hey There Delilah,’” she detailed. “It felt like I was living a real-life fantasy with this guy I’d watched on TV and in movies for years.”

She also said she was “casually involved” with John Mayer: “I kept it so quiet because I wanted to continue hanging out with him. Unfortunately, since it wasn’t always just the two of us, one of my girlfriends opened her big mouth.” When that pal spilled the truth, “He didn’t want to speak to me or see me anymore,” she wrote. “For all he knew, I was the one blabbing about the details of our hangouts.”

But while she’s spilling…she said her list of conquests include: “Shemar Moore, Josh Hopkins, Shane West, Jesse McCartney, JC Chasez, Adrian Grenier, Ricardo Chavira, William Tell, two actors from The Notebook, and a few NFL, NBA, and MLB players, to name a few.”

Scheana Shay Learned Early on How Fake Reality TV Can Be

Doing a scene at Hollywood club H.Wood, she was stunned when pal Stacie Adams was “dubbed a ‘homewrecker’” for flirting with Spencer Pratt, while she and another friend were “called ‘wh–es’ and ‘sluts’”

But none of it was real, Scheana noted, recounting how Heidi Montag pulled up in a car next to her after they wrapped. “She was so sweet, nothing like the mean girl MTV Heidi who was edited and packaged for the masses,” wrote Scheana. “She said, ‘Hey guys, sorry I had to be mean to you, it was all just for the show. You know that, right?’”

Why Scheana Shay Feels Lisa Vanderpump Set Her Up

But the true reality TV masterclass came courtesy of Lisa Vanderpump, who tapped Scheana to work SUR’s launch party, filmed for a January 2012 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Though Lisa invited RHOBH castmate Brandi to attend, “I had zero suspicion that I was walking into a setup for a spin-off,” Scheana said of Lisa manufacturing a segue to her own Vanderpump Rules series, “nor that it would ultimately position me as a fool on national television.”

Lisa pushed her in Brandi’s direction, instructing her to tray-pass hors d’oeuvres. When informed about the romance with Eddie, Scheana wrote, “Lisa acted as though she was shocked.”

Fast-forward to recently—after VPR‘s latest cast turnover—when Scheana was talking to a producer. “We were chatting about how the show started and they said, ‘Lisa was worried that the Disney girl who had a connection to Eddie wasn’t going to participate,’” Scheana wrote. “They were talking about me directly to my face. In other words, outing Lisa and gifting me the one thing I’d always suspected—that Lisa knew about my affair with Eddie all along. And she used it to launch VPR.”

Scheana Shay Says Michael Shay Was High at Their Wedding

They should have been the best days of her life. Instead, less than two years into her marriage to high school pal Michael Shay, Scheana asked for a divorce on camera—fed up with his ongoing Aderall use and the emotional affairs she said he had behind her back.

And she admitted her feet began cooling even before she walked down the aisle in 2014.

“Sadly, my wedding night was also when I started to really wonder if my new husband had an addiction,” she wrote. Having asked him not to drink at all during their reception, she was pleased to see him abstain.

But back at one of the casitas they’d rented for their bridal party, “I noticed that his eyes were completely glazed over, and he was unsteady on his feet,” she detailed. Weeks later, she put the pieces together when castmate Tom Sandoval “offered us these little blue pills, which he said were Ecstasy.”

While she immediately refused, “Shay, appearing perplexed, said, ‘Wait, that looks like the pill you gave me at the wedding. I thought it was Adderall.’ We were both in shock. Shay didn’t intend to get f–ked up that night. He just wanted an Adderall to stay up later.” (E! News has reached out to Tom and Michael’s reps for comment but has not heard back.)

Scheana Shay Was Demoted on Vanderpump Rules—Twice

Despite, uh, SUR-ving up the drama during her first seven seasons on Vanderpump Rules, Scheana learned she was being demoted to “friend of” status right before making an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

Confiding in host Andy Cohen, “I was sobbing,” she recounted. “He looked at me sympathetically and said, ‘Listen, we’re a few minutes from air. I need you to get your s–t together, make great TV and show everyone that you deserve your spot on the show.”

She got that dreaded call again ahead of season 10, though that time around Scheana blamed her romance with husband Brock Davies, claiming his past—including an admission that he once slapped his ex-wife and had a strained relationship with their kids Eli and Winter—”resonated poorly with the audience.”

Explained Scheana, “It was fine if he wanted to be part of group stuff, but they just wouldn’t be giving him call times.”

In other words, she said, “It felt like a total f–k-you.”

Yes, Vanderpump Rules Editors Took Some Liberties

The way Scheana saw it, Vanderpump Rules producers sometimes went out of their way to show her bad side. Referencing since-fired editor Bri Dellinger‘s confession that she efforted to find her “most cringeworthy moments and piece them together,” said Scheana, she came with receipts.

The most egregious example came when Scheana was prompted to talk to Stassi Schroeder‘s then-15-year-old brother Nikolai Schroeder at Stassi’s engagement party.

“I was teasing him, as I would a younger brother, thinking nothing of it,” Scheana wrote, noting that she asked him about school, sports and potential girlfriends. “That is, until the final episode made it look like I was hitting on Nikolai. I was shocked; he was fifteen.”

Scheana Shay Had a Relationship With a Mystery Woman

When Scheana met a woman she identified only as “DD” at 2019’s Stagecoach Music Festival, “We had this instant connection.” Bonding over a mutual love for Sam Hunt, they continued to kick it back in L.A., kissing at TomTom one night.

For the next few months, said Scheana, “It became this weird thing where we would get drunk, make out, and tell people we were dating.”

The situation left Scheana confused, wondering if she was bisexual, lonely and over men or simply attracted to this one woman.

“It felt like more than friendship but not enough to admit or commit to a relationship,” said Scheana, sharing that she worried what her conservative relatives and VPR viewers would think. “Part of me wishes I’d expressed to DD how I was feeling, to see if she felt the same, but the fear of rejection outweighed finding out what we could be for me.”

Madly in love following a November trip to Australia and Bali, the pair were out with DD, “and, just like old times, she kissed me,” said Scheana, describing how Brock lost his cool. “He said, ‘You’re my girlfriend now. You don’t do that s–t. You guys had a thing and that ends now or I’m gone.’”

Scheana Shay Almost Died Giving Birth to Summer Moon

Scheana revealed in October 2020 that she was expecting a rainbow baby with Brock—daughter Summer Moon Honey Davies—mere months after she suffered a miscarriage. Though they weren’t trying, said Scheana, “let’s just say Brock could work on his reflexes a bit.”

Induced just nine days before filming began on season 9, Scheana experienced a dangerous blood pressure spike 15 hours into labor and feared the worst.

“There I was, selfishly trying to have this baby so I could film a TV show,” she wrote, “and her heart rate was dropping.”

Unaware she had a severe form of preeclampsia called HELLP syndrome, “It was a miracle that I was induced,” noted Scheana. “Had I waited and given birth naturally, the doctors might not have caught my preeclampsia, and I could have had a stroke and died.”

Said Scheana, “I continue to work on different forms of exposure therapy in an attempt to overcome my demons.”

The Vanderpump Rules Cast Faked This One Scene

Raise a glass to the ingenuity that delivered a drama-filled end to season nine. With the entire cast gathered in California’s Santa Ynez Valley for James Kennedy and Rachel “Raquel” Levissengagement party “the plan was for me and Brock to have a secret elopement while we were there,” Scheana said, noting that since she’d already had the filmed-for-TV over-the-top nuptials with Shay, “all I cared about was marrying Brock.”

And, perhaps, ensuring a 10th season. While she eventually nixed the plan, not wanting to upstage the other bride-to-be, “We were all under a lot of pressure to produce an explosive finale,” Scheana explained, “and we knew all of our jobs were kind of on the line if we didn’t deliver.”

So she, Lala Kent, Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney hatched a plan for Lala to tell James and Rachel that Scheana was trying to co-opt their big day.

“And, as a result of this bombshell, drama would ensue and hopefully guarantee another season,” said Scheana. “Job security, check!”

After the blowup, “I went back to the hotel in the same car as Brock and Lala,” revealed Scheana. “We’d all been fighting and then we were peacefully driving away together.”

No, Scheana Shay Did Not Punch Rachel “Raquel” Leviss

After a press day in March 2023, Rachel and Schena were at a New York City bar, when Rachel came walking out with Tom’s then-girlfriend Ariana on speaker.

When Scheana asked what was happening, Rachel “looked at me blankly and confessed, ‘Tom Sandoval and I have been having an affair for seven months. Ariana just found out.’”

Seeing red, Scheana hurled Rachel’s phone into a gutter. When Rachel grabbed her wrist, “I pushed her off me,” Scheana detailed. “She came back toward me, so I shoved her again.”

Back at the hotel, “I called Ariana and said, ‘I pushed that b–ch and threw her phone in the street,’” said Scheana. “Ariana had me on speakerphone and Tom could hear from the background. Apparently, he thought I said, I punched that b–ch. I’ll admit there were a lot of emotions that night, but I did not punch Raquel.”

Which is why she was upset when Rachel’s “story changed,” said Scheana. Noting how Rachel filed a police report in L.A. and a temporary restraining order (which was later dropped), Scheana wrote, “This girl was willing to lie about me, put my livelihood and reputation in jeopardy, as well as expose herself to serious legal issues for filing a false report, just so that the media would go easier.” (For her part, Rachel said the TRO was “intended to provide a cooling-off period after I was punched, but I didn’t want to continue with the permanent RO.”)

Brock Davies Cheated While Scheana Shay Was Pregnant With Summer Moon

While the Scandoval storyline dominated all of season 10, another tale of infidelity was happening closer to home. Amid rumors Brock was hooking up with Rachel, detailed Scheana, “He was afraid that something that actually was true might surface, and it was best that I heard it directly from him.”

And so in the spring of 2023, Scheana learned that Brock—who was “scared about being a father again,” she wrote—carried on a brief affair with an old friend while Scheana was carrying his child.

“Unable to contain my rage,” she shared, “I slapped him and threw a Rubik’s cube in his direction, which he dodged.” Once she got past that all-consuming anger, though, Scheana began to work on solving the problems in her union.

She admitted she likely wouldn’t have married Brock had she known the truth and if she didn’t have Summer “my reaction would have been very different.”

Still, “When push came to shove, I had a choice to make,” Scheana detailed. “Option A: I could give up on Brock and our family, but I would be throwing our life away, fracturing my family, and hanging on to the hatred that was eating me alive. Or Option B: I could choose to forgive. I could begin to let go of the animosity and resentment and keep moving forward.”

Scheana Hasn’t Made Any Money Off Of “Good As Gold”

As it turns out, Scheana’s infamous single isn’t quite as good as gold. Though the certified bop has been performed on VPR several times and was used in an Uber Eats ad, “To this day, I haven’t earned a penny off of ‘Good As Gold,’ aside from vinyl sales,” the singer shared. Beause early on in her career, her then-manager set her up with his entertainment lawyer.

“Looking back, it probably wasn’t in my best interest to share legal representation, but I didn’t know any better at the time,” Scheana explained. She trusted him when he instructed her to sign some paperwork, calling it “all standard.”

However, she wrote, “Apparently one of those documents signed over the rights to ‘Good As Gold’ to him. I don’t presently have access to copies of that contract, if I ever did, and my attempts over the years to retain rights over my work or receive copies of our original contract have been unsuccessful. Maybe that will change now.”
