Khloe Kardashian candidly spoke about the moment she reunited with her ex-husband Lamar Odom, nine years after finalizing their divorce, and if she would do it again.
For Khloe Kardashian, keeping up with her past came with a cost.
Indeed, the Kardashians star recalled the raw feelings that resurfaced when she reunited with her ex-husband Lamar Odom for the first time in almost a decade.
“That was so emotionally draining for me,” Khloe, 41, explained while answering fan questions on the July 30 episode of her Khloe in Wonder Land podcast on X. “Not seeing someone for 10 years is crazy, but I think also seeing that person and being on camera, there were a lot of different factors.”
Plus, it was hard to see a new version of someone she previously knew so well.
“It was sad because he was so strange to me,” she said. “I didn’t know him, but yet I knew him so well. I didn’t think I would feel that awkward around someone that I’ve known so deeply.”
She also pushed back on criticism she faced forallowing the reunion—which also included her BFF Malika Haqq and Kris Jenner—to air on the season six premiere of The Kardashians, emphasizing she didn’t put Lamar in a situation he didn’t want to be in.
“He knew about the cameras,” she said. “He actually picked the time, picked all of that stuff. He was very happy and fine with the cameras being there.”
Khloe—who divorce Lamar in 2016—admitted that while the retired NBA star was okay with the meeting, she felt uncomfortable as she was triggered by his behavior.
“It was definitely an out of body experience,” the Good American co-founder explained. “When I was married to Lamar and he was in the height of a lot of the toxic things he was doing to himself, Lamar would be late. He would be sweating, there was a lot of signs of what he was doing. So, when he showed up late—I’m not saying he was using drugs—I’m just saying if he was organically late, these things triggered something in me where it threw me back to when we were married.”
“When he was sweating, yes Malika’s AC broke that day,” she added. “There were reasons those things were happening, but those things really triggered me. I think I automatically went into protection mode, and I needed to protect myself. And I sort of blacked out and I was in autopilot.”
Khloe—who shares True, 7, and Tatum, 3, with Tristan Thompson—noted that her meeting with Lamar was a step in the right direction though another reunion would have to come with different circumstances.
“I’m not opposed to ever meeting up with him again in maybe a more private setting,” she said. “Just to see how that conversation goes. It’s sort of no more words to say with that, it’s just all feeling.”
As for Lamar, following the meeting, he revealed that he is open to having a different kind of relationship with his ex-wife.
“So much time has passed,” he said in January during an interview on the Kyle & Jackie O Show. “And people change. I think it’s healthy sometimes to move on. In a healthy way. Like I said it would be a blessing to be her friend just to be around her.”

Khloe revealed that she found her then-husband, whom she was married to from 2009 to 2016, cheating on her in a motel in downtown Los Angeles.
“I was young, like maybe 26,” she recalled. “I saw in the window that him and this girl were either naked or she was in lingerie, something like that, but I knocked on the door, they answered it for some reason, and I just started going ballistic.”
“He could not understand how I knew where he was,” she continued. “I was like, ‘I don’t give a s–t, I’m not telling anybody anything and why are you in a motel in downtown LA at 3:00 in the morning?’”
The reality star added that the next day, she attended her niece Penelope Disick’s birthday party and hid her injuries from their altercation.
“It was a cowboy party,” Khloe remembered. “And my knuckles were all bloody and gross and I just had bandanas wrapped around—I was on theme—and I acted like nothing ever happened and I never said a thing.”

While Khloe’s marriage to Lamar—which despite separating in 2013 legally ended in 2016 due to the former NBA player’s near-fatal 2015 overdose—included incredibly dark times in her life, she also looks back at some moments fondly.
“That was one of the best chapters in my life,” she said, but also added, “It took away so much of my innocence. There were things that I was exposed to that I never in a million years thought I would be exposed to.”
“I think in your 20s, you really believe that love is all you need,” she reflected. “I really do think it was the right person, wrong time. I have so much love for Lamar and every relationship I have, I’m so grateful for them, even the worst of them. They mold me and they make me more empathetic and compassionate. They built me in a different way.”

For older sister Khloe, she shared her regrets about her relationship with Tristan amid his 2018 cheating scandal, which she learned about two days after she gave birth to their daughter True.
“I think the worst part of that experience was how much I let my younger sisters down because I remember they were like, ‘He’s going to do this again. Don’t stay with him,’” she said of Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. “I remember the disappointment in them. They would never say that to me and they’ve never said that to me, but I’ve always felt how much I’ve disappointed them by staying and doing that again.”
“I still feel really horrible about that because I’ve always been this big sister to them,” she added. “Maybe the second one hurt more because I lived with it for so much longer and maybe I’ve had more shame with the second scandal because I sort of knew it was gonna happen again.”
Looking back at her decision, the 40-year-old, who welcomed son Tatum with Tristan in 2022, admitted that she “buried my head in the sand” with the first scandal.
“I just wanted to have this bliss that I always dream of and have a brand new baby and have the daddy here,” she explained. “When you’ve never been in that position, it’s really easy to judge and to say things. “
In December 2021, as Khloe and Tristan began their surrogacy journey to welcome Tatum, the NBA player fathered son Theo, 3, with Maralee Nichols. He and Khloe ultimately split for good in 2022.

“I mean, trust me,” she said with a laugh. “I would’ve cut way other s–t. I’ve never cut anything crazy.”
As for who asks the most? Eldest sister Kourtney Kardashian, according to Khloe.
“It’s more because she’ll say, ‘I say ‘like’ too many times, so remove this word,’” she explained. “It’s more that regard. It’s not really because of story—not storylines, because they’re following us—but it’s not about a story concept. It’s more verbiage.”
