Kim Kardashian is breaking the internet yet again.
Indeed, the Kardashians star made waves with her 2025 Academy Museum Gala look Oct. 18, attending the event in a Maison Margiela couture nude look—complete with a mask that covered her entire face.
However, Kim revealed that despite her technically faceless look, she was still in full glam beneath.
“You know, I love Margiela,” Kim told Variety on the red carpet. “Honestly, I flew in my favorite makeup artist Mario [Dedivanovic] from New York, and this is kind of a last-minute thing, so I’m sure he’s not so happy with it.”
As for how Kim—who noted that she would likely unveil her look once inside—planned to eat throughout the evening? “You don’t,” she explained. “You just don’t. I ate before to make sure I was okay.”
This particular opaque ensemble, as the SKIMS designer shared, caught her on eye as soon as she saw it on the runway.
“It does look very SKIMS-y,” Kim, whose look also included a glamorous bejeweled silver choker, explained. “That’s why I was drawn to it when the Margiela couture show came out. I saw this look and I was like, ‘That is so SKIMS and so me, how can I get it?’” Referring to designer Glenn Martens, she added, “And he really had the vision of wearing the mask and the necklace together.”
Kim’s latest mask look is, of course, reminiscent of her polarizing 2021 Met Gala outfit. For that event, the 44-year-old rocked an all-black custom ensemble (covering her from to head to toe), designed by Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga.
And though she ended up fully committing to the head-turning look, Kim admitted she was not on board at first.
“I fought against it. I was like, I don’t know how I could wear the mask,” she told Vogue in 2022. “Why would I want to cover my face? But Demna and the team were like, This is a costume gala. This is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look.”
