Khloe Kardashian detailed why she feels “so good” to be four years celibate, despite simultaneously feeling “embarrassed” about not having sex since her breakup with Tristan Thompson in 2021.
Khloe Kardashian is living her truth—even if she finds it a bit cringe-worthy.
After The Kardashians star revealed she has been celibate for “years” following her 2021 breakup with Tristan Thompson—with whom she shares True, 7, and Tatum, 3—she detailed the experience and her reaction to the public response.
“I’m mortified that it’s even my truth,” Khloe admitted in an interview with Elle published Nov. 5. “This December will be four years. I get a little embarrassed. I’m like, ‘This is so pathetic,’ but once you get to a certain place, you think, ‘No, this is so special.’”
Indeed, the 41-year-old shared that she feels as though she’s unlocked a new perspective through the journey.
“I feel so good,” she explained. “It’s so easy to hook up with other people and distract yourself. When I was going through my breakup it would have been so easy to deflect and hook up with someone else.”
However, a break from any romance has allowed Khloe to answer bigger questions in her life. As she put it, “I was like, ‘Okay, why am I making these decisions?’ ‘What am I doing in my life?’ ‘I need to figure out what’s going on with me.’”
Of course, another factor of the lifestyle change has been navigating dating with two young kids.
“I’ve never dated with children before and that’s such a serious factor to me,” she continued. “I started going to therapy, and I started trying to figure myself out more, especially in my romantic life.”
Despite the benefits, Khloe maintained that her celibacy journey wasn’t intentional.
“Once I really was working on myself, I didn’t have the energy to date anyone else,” she reflected. “Now, no one is even worth my time. My kids are my priority. Other than that, I want to lie in bed and watch TV if I have free time and I don’t want to share it with someone else. I’m a little concerned, because I am so happy, so the only thing that worries me is whether I am ever going to want to figure this out.”
And when the Good American founder saw such a powerful response to her vulnerable omission, she wasn’t all that surprised.
“I don’t blame them,” she noted of other women who are voluntarily celibate. “It’s a different world now, with social media and everything too. I think we’re becoming more choosy. I’m a little older. I’m 41, so I’m not in the club meeting people.”
Khloe doesn’t know how to even begin to approach dating. “I’m too judgy,” she added. “If I had to swipe left or right, that wouldn’t be good.”
As for when the lifestyle choice will come to an end? Khloe is holding out for now. “When I meet the right guy,” she reasoned. “I will.”
