Eight years after she lost mother Carrie Fisher, Billie Lourd shared how she is honoring her mother’s Princess Leia legacy on Star Wars Day May 4.
Billie Lourd isn’t letting May the Fourth pass her by without giving her mom some love.
In celebration of what fans of the sci-fi series deem Star Wars day May 4, Billie honored her late mother Carrie Fisher’s depiction of Princess Leia by having her and husband Austen Rydell’s kids Kingston, 3, Jackson Joane, 2, watching the 1977 film.
And Billie wrote in the caption of her May 4 post, using emojis, “May the 4th”
Billie’s sweet update comes just a few months after she commemorated the eighth anniversary of her mother’s tragic 2016 death.
“It has been 8 years since my mom died,” the 32-year-old wrote in a December post. “As my son would say ‘that’s a lot!’ I always dread this day. I spend so much time leading up to it thinking about how awful I’m going to feel. And my dread is usually right. I woke up this morning with a dark cloud over me.”
The Scream Queens alum noted that her toddlers helped her through the grief, adding, “But when my kids woke up the dark cloud dissipated and made way for bright glowing sunshine.”
Still, the anniversary was an understandably difficult day for Billie, who likened it to a “tropical emotional storm.”
“It pours rain a lot of the day, but between the storms the light is more beautiful than on any day without storm clouds,” she explained. “There are no rainbows without rain. My grief has given me a deeper appreciation for all the little moments of life.”
Billie—who Carrie shares with ex Bryan Lourd—also emphasized that she still sees her mother’s power in her children.
“Today I am griefful (griefy but grateful),” Billie added. “I watch the magic that is my son and daughter and I know she is a piece of that magic. And I feel all the things. The grief. The joy. The longing. The magic. The emptiness. The fullness. And it all coexists in a profound way.”
