Tristan Rogers, who has appeared on the daytime soap opera General Hospital as Robert Scorpio in more than 1,400 episodes since 1980, has been diagnosed with cancer, according to his rep.
One General Hospital star has received a new medical diagnosis.
Tristan Rogers, who made his first of over 1,400 appearances on the soap opera in 1980, has been diagnosed with cancer, his rep confirmed to Deadline.
“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” the rep told the outlet in a statement published July 17. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”
In addition to the medical update, Rogers—whose character Robert Scorpio last appeared on General Hospital in November—relayed his and his family’s appreciation for the kind responses they’ve received.
“They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family,” the rep continued. “Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years. This support means more to him now than ever.”
And as the 79-year-old embarks on his battle with an unspecified type of cancer, the rep emphasized the actor’s desire for privacy, adding, “Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.”
Following his debut on General Hospital, Rogers went on to appear in nearly 200 episodes of The Young and the Restless and won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in 2020 for the digital drama series Studio City, but he has continually returned to Port Charles over the last 45 years.
“Robert has always had kind of a glib approach to everything,” the Australian native told Soap Opera Digest about returning to his character in 2018 after a two-year hiatus. “He’s a bit of a smart-mouth.”
“I’m working with a lot of different people,” Rogers continued, “and I think the fans are going to like it.”

The actor, known for roles in The Boys and Supernatural, shared on Feb. 3, 2023, that he had battled prostate cancer for years and was cancer free.
“I had to have a lil bit o’cancer removed from my body and lymph nodes biopsied,” the Vanderpump Rules star revealed to fans at the close of 2018. “(In the clear now!)”
The Desperate Housewives star revealed to fans in September 2018 that she survived anal cancer. “After posting a picture of myself here and uttering the words #cancer and #hairloss, I feel liberated, deliriously free and completely me,” she shared on Instagram.
The two-time Oscar winner underwent successful treatment for cancer, and his rep confirmed to E! News that doctors deemed Hoffman “surgically cured.”
The X-Men star was treated for his third basal cell carcinoma back in 2014, and after his third treatment, Jackman’s rep told E! News that he’s “all good” now.
In April 2023, Hugh had two biopsies for additional basal cell carcinoma. At the time, he told fans, “If I can just take this opportunity to remind you summer is coming for those of us in the northern hemisphere, please wear sunscreen.”
