Nikki Glaser, who will host the 2025 Golden Globes Jan. 5, said she won’t mention the legal battles surrounding It Ends With Us’ Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni: “The tone is celebratory.”

Nikki Glaser has a boundary for her Golden Globes

While the comedian—who is pulling double duty as both host and nominee at the Jan. 5 award show in Los Angeles—knows the legal battles surrounding It Ends With Us costars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have been making waves, she plans to steer clear of that conversation.

“I think [it] is such a hot-button thing right now,” Glaser told Yahoo Entertainment on Jan. 2, “that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be.”

The 40-year-old emphasized her support of Lively, who filed a lawsuit against Baldoni and others on New Year’s Eve, citing sexual harassment and retaliation, after filing a legal complaint more than a week prior.

Referring to Baldoni, who has denied Lively’s allegations and through his attorney has stated plans to sue the Gossip Girl alum in addition to his ongoing suit against The New York Times, Glaser added, “I also don’t want to give his name any—I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”

The first-time host—whose no-holds-barred performance at the roast of Tom Brady in May was met with acclaim—also noted that her work as the night’s emcee will be a softening from her previous work, saying she won’t “go so hard that anyone’s gonna be offended,” à la Ricky Gervais’ 2020 hosting gig. 

In fact, she called the award show “a great PR move” and an opportunity for stars to “look likable to the public.”

Instead, her word of advice to attendees—who will include Andrew Garfield, Ariana Grande, Zendaya, Glen Powell, Angelina Jolie and many more—is to take a step off the pedestal their fame offers them.

“I would really encourage celebrities to just laugh at jokes about you,” she continued. “I know it sucks sometimes. I’ve been on the receiving end of jokes at roasts and I’ve had to laugh through my tears of being hurt. I’m not going to call you an ugly horseface woman, though, which is what I’ve had to laugh through.”

And while Glaser—whose nomination for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for her special Someday You’ll Die marks her first—emphasized she doesn’t plan to “kiss ass up there the whole time,” she wants to remind the Golden Globes audience that “the tone is celebratory.”

“Let’s laugh about how ridiculous this is with the state of the world that we’re all dressed up and giving out awards for playing pretend,” she said. “We have to acknowledge that that’s silly, even though it is amazing.”
