Spanish actor Javier Bardem has announced his participation in a new television series titled “Cape Fear,” based on John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners.”

This project involves collaboration with renowned directors Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese and will premiere on Apple TV+. Bardem will portray the villain Max Cady, a role previously played by Robert De Niro and Robert Mitchum in earlier film adaptations. Los 40

The series, consisting of 10 episodes, is described as a Hitchcockian thriller that narrates the story of Max Cady, a recently released criminal seeking revenge against attorney Sam Bowden, whom he blames for his imprisonment. Nick Antosca, known for his work on “The Act” and “Candy,” will serve as the executive producer, director, writer, and showrunner of the series. El País

This new television adaptation will draw from the original novel and the two previous film adaptations: the original “Cape Fear” from 1962 and Scorsese’s 1991 remake. In these films, the central character, Max Cady, is a vengeful ex-convict who pursues attorney Sam Bowden and his family. Bardem will assume the role of Max Cady, blending elements from the previous cinematic portrayals.

This project marks Bardem’s second foray into television, following his participation in Ryan Murphy’s series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” Additionally, Bardem is set to release a film about Formula 1 alongside Brad Pitt in the summer of 2025.

The collaboration between Bardem, Spielberg, and Scorsese has generated significant anticipation in the entertainment industry, and the “Cape Fear” series is expected to offer a fresh perspective on this classic tale of suspense and revenge.
