Jason Kelce was overcome with emotion as he recalled the backlash he received from fans who believed he was cheering against his brother Travis Kelce during the Super Bowl.

Jason Kelce has nothing but brotherly love for Travis Kelce.

The They Call It Late Night host became emotional as he made it clear that he was fully supporting the Kansas City Chiefs player during Super Bowl LIX, despite claims he was solely rooting for his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

“It sucks, I knew it was going to be weird going into it. It progressively got weirder as the week went on,” the 37-year-old said on the New Heights podcast with Travis Feb. 12. “On one hand, you played your entire life with an organization and team. A lot of people, in that building, coaches, friends, teammates that you’ve gone through adversity with. And it really, makes you very, very close.”

“And then on the other hand you have your brother,” he continued. “I’ve always supported you. I’ve always wanted you to win, and I wanted you to win this game. I thought I made that clear.”

Travis had no doubt about big brother’s support interjecting, “You made that clear to me.”

Jason went on to tearfully defend himself against the backlash he received from fans after the Chiefs were defeated by the Eagles 40-22.

“It was hard to navigate because I’m trying to say that I have people on the Eagles that I love and I also have you,” Jason said. “I tried to make it known that I was rooting for you. And I felt like I couldn’t be right. It felt like no matter what I said, people were going to skew it and say that I was rooting for the Eagles and some people were going to skew it and say that I was rooting for the Chiefs or Travis.”

Travis acknowledged his brother’s close connection to the city of Philadelphia, after playing 13 years with the Eagles before his retirement in 2024. Still, Jason was frustrated with the outside world’s misconception.

“That does not take precedence over rooting for you, that’s why this game sucked,” Jason said through tears. “It was very, very hard to watch. I tried to correlate that I was rooting for both sides the whole time. And that I was going to happy and sad regardless no matter who won.”

Amid his brother’s emotions, Travis—who had the support of girlfriend Taylor Swift and parents Donna Kelce and Ed Kelce at the game—reassured him that he didn’t question his loyalty.

“You don’t have to explain anything to anybody,” No. 87 said. “I know who Jason Kelce is and I know my brother and what his intentions are. Nobody can ever f–king confuse that.”

Travis added, “You can still be happy for somebody, and you can still be sad for somebody.”

Ultimately, Jason—who is expecting his fourth baby with wife Kylie Kelce—summed up his complex feelings about the game.

“I don’t know how to articulate that I was happy for some of the Eagles but at the same time I was miserable during the game,” Jason said. “Not watching achieve your success again. Like I didn’t enjoy any part of it. It felt weird for me not to be cheering. It was just a really f—ed up emotion.”
