SAG Awards: All the Eternally Fashionable Looks From the 2005 Ceremony

Two decades ago, chiffon, satin, ruching and bright patterns were all the craze on the red carpet and it was evident at the 2005 SAG Awards with stars like Kate Winslet dressed to impress.

From chiffon and satin gowns to halter necklines and bold embellishments, the 2005 SAG Awards‘ fashion has proven to be a time capsule of its era.

It was clear as stars showed up to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in ensembles that embodied the early aughts. For instance, Kate Winslet arrived in a turquoise satin gown featuring a ruched bodice, hoping to take home Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. (Hillary Swank won for Million Dollar Baby.)

Meanwhile, Eva Longoria—who took home the trophy for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series alongside her Desperate Housewives costars—attended in a strapless satin eggplant-purple gown that was completed with a chiffon hemline that was embroidered with sequined florals.

Her onscreen husband Ricardo Antonio Chavira arrived in an all-black ensemble, wearing a satin button-up shirt. And Jason Bateman wore a boxy black suit and loose-fitting pants, a typical look for the time but now appears more untailored rather than intentional.

As for the most memorable look of the evening? Unsurprisingly, Sarah Jessica Parker made a fashion statement with her high-low strapless Christian Lacroix mini-dress that featured black and white polka dots, which she accessorized with a black choker and red satin heels.

Although the Sex and the City

“Carrie was a much more courageous dresser than I am,” Sarah told Vogue in February 2022. “She has a much more fevered relationship with fashion and much more indulgent. I’m much more of an observer. Occasionally, I get to dip in and participate.”

But she admitted. “I wouldn’t have been so brave.”

As we await for stars like Ariana Grande, Colman Domingo and Zoe Saldaña to dazzle at the 2025 SAG Awards Feb. 23, take a time machine back 20 years and see the most memorable looks from the red carpet.
