Hilaria Baldwin Says How Alec Baldwin’s Age Affects His Mental Health

Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria Baldwin discussed his hesitance to seek help for his mental health in an exclusive preview clip of their TLC reality series, The Baldwins.

Alec Baldwin is getting candid about his mental health.

In E! News’ exclusive preview clip of TLC’s The Baldwins, the actor told wife Hilaria Baldwin how he’s historically dealt with his internal struggles.

“For me, my nature [is] to obsess about my problems and try to solve them,” he told Hilaria in the episode airing March 9. “I’ve white-knuckled that steering wheel my whole life. I’ve tried to make the car go where I wanted it to go and taken years off my life in the process. Now, I’d like to stop doing that.”

After encouraging Alec, 66, to continue making “small shifts” in his habits, Hilaria, 41, pointed out that her husband’s way of thinking might be generational.

“Alec is a man born in the 1950s and asking for help is a difficult thing,” she explained in a confessional interview. “You’ve got to be a man, you’ve got to be strong, you’ve got to be all these different kinds of things. But I think that asking for help is not something that was modeled for him.”

She added, “Hopefully he can realize that it’s OK.”

During a previous episode of the reality series, Hilaria shared that the 30 Rock alum had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the wake of the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set of the film Rust in 2021. She also noted the extent to which the actor—with whom she shares seven children—was affected mentally by the tragedy.

“Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline,” she shared on the Feb. 23 installment of the series. “He says in his darkest moments, ‘If an accident had to have happened this day, why am I still here? Why couldn’t it have been me?’”

While resulting involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec—who also shares daughter Ireland Baldwin, 29, with ex-wife Kim Basinger—were ultimately dismissed in July, the actor highlighted just how much he’s leaned on his family through the difficult circumstances.

“From the bottom of my soul,” he told his wife on the show, “I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have you or these kids.”

The Baldwins airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST/9 p.m. CST on TLC.
